Among the many qualities that make Mag-Big so special is that it is one of the only retail stores that features re-designed clothing. In fact, re-design, or “upcycling,” is one of the primary focuses of owner/designer, Cassie Ridgway.
What is re-design?
Re-designed apparel are garments that have been created out of pre-existing materials. Many of these dresses, skirts, and shirts were once table clothes, old clothes, suit case linings, old curtains, and many other unique textiles. The process involves de-constructing the fabric and re-purposing it. By recycling materials, we bring new life to exciting vintage and contemporary textiles– and we are able to keep our costs much lower, so our garments are rather affordable.
It is true that Mag-Big is one of the only shops in Portland that has designers working in re-design. Our list of re-designers is always growing, but at the moment, we are proudly featuring:
-Sweet Cycles Apparel
-Iron City Upcylery
-Aniela Parys Designs
-Vintage Lamb
-Cobra Peach
-The Serge Sisters
-Hello Amelia Designs
-Whiskey Dog Print Shop
-Mag-Big Originals
All re-designed garments are implicitly one-of-a-kind. We hope you love them!
-Cassie
